The Race Card

This last week of July 2008, the McCain campaign is running a campaign ad which features sepia head and shoulder picturesof Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Barack Obama. This(possibly Irish) guy was not impressed. Apparently McCain would like us to believe that what Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Barack Obama have in common is ditziness, moral laxity, shallow celebrity. . .

There is almost too much irony to stand here, not the least of which is that Paris Hilton's parents have contributed the maximum legal amount ($4600) to . . . John McCain. What a great guy! Accept the cash and then hold the kid up to public ridicule!

We've been here before though. The ad calls to mind the blatant appeal to racism in the Republican National Committee ad against Harold Ford, Jr. of Tennessee, which featured a winking blonde inviting Harold to "call her.' The McCain campaign may be connecting Obama to two sexually flamboyant white women in a racist appeal against Obama. Nice! Well, it worked against Harold Ford.

So, Obama responds with a comment to the effect that McCain wants us to believe that he [Obama] "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills." And McCain's slimemeister accuses Obama of playing the race card from the bottom if the deck. Isn't this equal to supporters of a candidate who used political influence to get an Air Force Reserve billet and was then AWOL sliming a decorated Vietnam veteran? Thus, another example of the link between Republicans and Truth.

How Could This Be?

In July 2000, gasoline was $1.47 and ExxonMobil profits were 4, 015 billion dollars. This year gas is $3.79 and ExxonMobil profits are 12 billion, 600 million dollars. Why? Does anyone believe it has nothing to do with the President and Vice President being oil men? Is there any doubt who the oil industry supported financially in the last two presidential elections? Might we assume that whichever candidate they support in this election will see that gas prices continue to rise along with the profits of ExxonMobil? Thay are supporting John McCain in a big way.

If these folks are willing to accept a tariff on all oil products we export, I am willing to accept their rhythmic drumbeat, "Drill, drill, drill!" To whom would we export oilthat we need here at home, anyway? Japan? Gee, aren't they the ones who make it so difficult for our manufactured products to penetrate their markets? China? Oh, yeah? American capitalists want to export our oil AND our jobs?

An Embarrassment of Riches

The recent dearth of posts here on HypocritsRUs is not due to a lack of hypocrist to call out but to an rray of choices so vast I have been immobilized.

McCainomics vs. Obamanomics

This exposition of the difference in the economic approaches of John McCain and Barack Obama is the best description of why I will be voting the way I will be voting this fall.  In fact, this is the quintessential difference between Republicans and Democrats as far back as I can remember.

David Brooks, Lying Hypocrite

This link is to a long article about David Brooks, editorial writer for the New Your Times, and how he lies, ignores facts, and shills for the banks in his assignment of blame for the mortgage mess.  Although the article is longish, it is a classic example of the profitable, hypocritical, lying of the moneyed.

O'Reilly ambushes Wexler

O'Reilly's ambush producer confronted Rep Robert Wexler (D) of Florida because he does not own property in Florida, but instead lives with his inlaws.  Orally/O'Reilly accused Wexler of "residential fraud."  Is Orally hate-mongering?

I have a suggestion for Orally:  Ambush "Exxon" Ed Whitfield of Kentucky and see if he lives in Kentucky.  While you're at it, ask him why he accepted a $1000 contribution from Abdulrahman AlAmoudi, who was convicted of terrorist activities in 2004 and sentenced to 23 years in prison.  I will not hold my breath, because when it comes to Orally, HypocritsRUs!

Andrea Mitchell, MSNBC Propagandist

Tuesday on MSNBC, Andrea Mitchell accused Barack Obama of giving "fake interviews." Strangely, she had no complaints on March 16 when John McCain made a secret (or should I say unannounced) trip to Iraq. There were no media invited and no press contacts planned, so I guess McSame didn't even do "fake interviews.".

Is there any connection between her bias and the fact that her husband is the renowned capitalist, Alan Greenspan? Is she really comparing Obama to Armstrong Williams, paid shill for No Republican Child Left Behind or the FEMA fake press briefing? HypocritsRUS!

T. Boone Pickens and Al Gore

T. Boone Pickens is the Texas oil billionaire who funded the "Swiftboat Veterans and POWs for Truth" propaganda campaign and then reneged on an offer to give a million dollars to anyone who could disprove any claims by the swiftboaters.

I would never have expected to agree with T. Boone instead of Al, but I do. In his testimony before the Senate Homeland Security committee, he said that he and Al talk frequently about energy and global warming and the difference between them is that global warming is a "page 2 issue" for him because his page 1 issue is the national security threat of buying foreign oil. Therefore he believes our first priority should be energy independence, and then global warming. Gore, on the other hand, comes at the issue with global warming as the more cruial concern.

Now, I think "clean coal" is BS and nuclear power still has that waste disposal problem, so they may not be very good solutions. I'm not ready to rule them out.

T. Boone is opening the conversation to natural gas and wind energy. His voice may legitimize alternative energy. Thanks, T. Boone.

I have a modest suggestion: Why don't we place an export tax on every barrel of oil we sell to anyone but Canada and Mexico and an equal import tax on every barrel we buy from anyone but Canada and Mexico and use the money to fund wind power, solar power, oil and gas exploration, and pollution control for coal power.
